Yes @ Areté Learning Trust provides Regional Training with National Speakers. Our training on different aspects of supporting students with Specific Learning Differences will be available throughout the year. Listings of planned training are constantly updated.

Here at YES @ Areté Learning Trust we strive to promote an understanding of Specific Learning Differences in order to support students/pupils, parents and professionals.

We focus on:

  • the early identification of children and young people’s needs and early intervention to support them.
  • the development of inclusive practice in order to remove
  • barriers to learning.
  • the provision of high-quality training.

 

We offer:

  • support with developing inclusive practice in different settings.
  • solution focused meetings with school staff, parents and
  • pupils to identify barriers to learning.
  • analysis of current provision focusing on impact, individual
  • pupil assessment with comprehensive reporting.
  • support with planning and the delivery of personalised
  • literacy and numeracy programmes.
  • progress reviews in person or by telephone.
  • access arrangements for external exams for KS4 and KS5.

 

We believe that the relationship between schools, professionals and parents is incredibly important, which is why we promote a ‘Parents as Partners’ ethos.

The SEND Code of Practice places great importance on involving parents and children in identifying, understanding and taking decisions about special educational needs. We work with parents, recognising the importance of neurodiversity, to create unique pupil profiles.

For parents be at the heart of decision making about their child, it is helpful for them to be fully informed about their child’s needs.

We liaise with a number of parents support group and offer:

  • bespoke support.
  • workshops, meetings and specialist information sharing.
  • reduced rates on all our training events for parents/carers.

Supporting Young People to Feel Calm, Focused and Ready to Learn

Concious Breathing Training

Conscious breathing is a simple yet powerful wellbeing practice that helps children and young people develop greater calm, focus and emotional resilience. It also provides teachers and school staff with practical tools to support their own wellbeing and create a positive learning environment.

Suitable for pupils of all ages, this evidence-informed training explores accessible breathing techniques that can be easily integrated into the school day to support physical, mental and emotional health.

Training Facilitator:
Steffy Cappleman, SOMA Breath Transformational Coach & Oxygen Advantage Functional Breathing Instructor

Cost:
£225 + VAT, plus travel expenses

Delivery:
Training is delivered after school at a time that is convenient for your team.

Event Bookings

By booking an event through the Areté Learning Exchange, you agree to these Terms and Conditions and the associated Cancellation Policy.

Cancellation by the Attendee

  • If you cancel your booking more than 14 days before the event start date, 25% of the booking fee will be retained as an administration charge and 75% will be refunded.
  • If you cancel within 14 days of the event start date, no refund will be payable and the full booking fee will be retained.

Cancellation by Areté Learning Trust

If Areté Learning Trust cancels an event, a full refund of any fees paid will be provided. Areté Learning Trust shall not be liable for any additional costs incurred by attendees, including travel, accommodation or other expenses.

Event-Specific Terms

Unless otherwise stated on the individual event listing, the cancellation terms above will apply. Where specific cancellation terms are published for an individual event, those terms will take precedence over this standard Cancellation Policy.

Changes to Events

Areté Learning Trust reserves the right to make reasonable changes to event content, speakers, venues, timings or delivery arrangements where necessary.

Dyscalculia - A Specific Learning Difficulty in Maths. How to Help!

Friday, 3rd October 2025: 9.30am - 1.30pm

Summary of the event:

This half day workshop will focus on how to identify dyscalculia, through the use of screeners, checklists and observations.

What can you expect from the training:

You will explore practical and developmental strategies to support learners with dyscalculia including 

  • the use of dot patterns, 
  • ten frames, 
  • manipulatives such as Cuisenaire rods.
  • demonstration of the value of visualisation strategies such as bar modelling for solving word problems.  

As a result of the workshop you will:

  • be able to identify dyscalculia and distinguish it from more general maths difficulties 
  • have practical strategies to use in the classroom to support learners with dyscalculia 

Training led by: Judy Hornigold

Judy is an independent educational consultant specialising in dyscalculia and dyslexia and has been a Singapore Maths trainer, for UK based Maths No Problem since 2014. She is particularly passionate about the teaching of maths and of finding ways to support learners with dyscalculia and general maths learning difficulties. Judy is an associate tutor for Edge Hill University and the British Dyslexia Association. Recent publications include Can I tell you about Dyscalculia, published by Jessica Kingsley in 2020.

Cancellations/Refunds: Cancellations of training events are subject to a 25% administration fee where the cancellation is made 3 weeks or more before the date of the event. No refund is payable for a cancellation made within 2 weeks prior to the training course – in this event the full sum shown on the invoice remains payable.
