Mike will focus on what mainstream colleagues can learn from alternative provisions around the UK.

Summary of the event:

As student’s needs become increasingly diverse and multi faceted the need for a practical and deeper approach to meeting these needs could not be more pressing. In this workshop Mike will focus on what mainstream colleagues can learn from alternative provisions around the UK. 

Mike will aim to refocus delegates’ enthusiasm, resources and thinking in order to meet needs by gleaming good practice from the specialist provisions that he works with. Sharing ideas across;

  • Learning & curriculum
  • Redesigning staffing, roles and provision
  • Environments
  • Therapeutic working
  • Whole school approaches
  • Policies
  • Systems

Training led by: Mike Armiger

Mike is a former head of educational provisions specifically for young people affected by trauma, care experienced children and children with SEND and mental health needs. He works with universities on models and approaches to student well being and is a specialist advisor in relation to trauma and mental health. Mike works strategically at authority and trust level to implement systems, practice and change. He is the author of the Regulation framework - A whole school system and support planning framework for young people affected by trauma. This has now been adopted by health and education teams in 5 European countries. Mike also works within mental health services and trains health professionals in suicide prevention/mitigation including response & assessment tools. ww.stayingsafe.net
