Funding Boost Brings Rebound Therapy to Norton College Through Activities for All Project

A total of 49 projects have been awarded a share of more than £1 million, supporting local organisations, community groups and charities to help people of all ages move more, enjoy the outdoors and improve their overall wellbeing. The fund is focused on tackling inequalities, supporting early intervention, and enhancing physical and mental health across the region.

Mayor David Skaith highlighted the life-changing impact of sport and activity:

“Sport changed my life and saved my life. I want more people to have the same opportunities to lead more active lives, improving their physical and mental health.

That’s why we’re investing over £1 million into 49 projects across the region. From Grassington to Scarborough, we’re ensuring that people of all ages and abilities have the opportunity to lead more active lives.

Movement, activity, and sport play a huge role in improving mental health and tackling social isolation. I can’t wait to get out and see the impact of these investments first-hand as we prepare for our next round of funding.”

Delivered in partnership with North Yorkshire Sport, the funded projects span the entire region, from cycling initiatives to new and improved community sports facilities.

The North Yorkshire Sport Active Communities Team shared their enthusiasm:

“We’re really excited to see the passion and commitment for improving access to movement, activity and sport across North Yorkshire.

This investment will see organisations work with communities to increase engagement in movement. From new and updated facilities, to targeted rural projects, disability sports programmes, and support for carers.

This fund is the start of a journey towards better access to opportunities, more confident communities and stronger relationships between organisations across the county.”

Among the successful initiatives is the Activities for All project, led by Yes@ Arete Learning Trust, which has been awarded £5,660.14 to establish the accessible Rebound Therapy service in Ryedale at Norton College.

This project addresses a significant gap in local provision. Currently, the nearest publicly accessible Rebound Therapy centre is over 50 miles away, creating a major barrier for individuals with disabilities who could greatly benefit from therapeutic movement.

Led by a Rebound Therapy Practitioner, the project builds on a successful pilot programme that demonstrated clear physical and emotional benefits for participants.

The funding will enable:

  • The creation of a permanent Rebound Therapy programme
  • Investment in essential accessibility equipment
  • Volunteer training to expand delivery and ensure long-term sustainability

The initiative will provide an inclusive and supportive environment where individuals can improve mobility, build confidence, and enhance their overall wellbeing.

This investment marks a significant step forward in ensuring that young people in Ryedale have access to vital therapeutic services within their own community, reducing isolation, improving health outcomes, and creating new opportunities for connection and growth.

As part of a wider programme supporting innovative and inclusive projects across York and North Yorkshire, the Rebound Therapy initiative stands as a powerful example of how targeted funding can transform lives and strengthen communities.
